Our Commitment to Nature

Join us in protecting the environment by making a pledge to support sustainable practices and cherish the natural beauty of Devon.

Here at Hurdwick Barn we are aiming to make weddings as carbon neutral as possible. By doing this, we calculate how many trees need to be planted to off set each wedding. Martin then plants the trees in the following days and sends you photos of your planted trees. You are more than welcome to come visit these trees in the following years, a lovely way to remember and reminisce about your special day.

When visiting Hurdwick Barn you will see several piles of logs scattered around the grounds. This is not laziness on our part but the makings of homes for bugs and insects. These log piles provide shelter from the elements and also any predators that may be lurking.

We have a couple of residents buzzards on the land. On your visit you may come across them! As they have been here for many years, they are not too fussed about your presence and will let us drive rather close to them before spreading their large wings and flying off. We also have a barn owl who has recently taken up residence in the quarry! You may hear their beautiful hooting throughout the evening of your celebrations, they are simply saying congratulations!

Hurdwick was once a golf course, which with the best will in the world are not very bio-diverse. Since closing the course in 2017 we have worked to improve the quality of the land. Since starting this, every year, we are rewarded with new flora and fauna that join us here at Hurdwick.
